The Robert B. Silvers Foundation is seeking qualified candidates to fill the position of Administrative Assistant starting September, 2023.

Since 2019, the Foundation has worked to carry on the life mission of Bob Silvers, a founding editor of the New York Review of Books, to support outstanding writers of long-form journalism, essay, and criticism. This work has taken the form of two major activities annually: awarding the Silvers Grants for Work in Progress, announced each year at the end of June, and bestowing the Silvers-Dudley Prizes, announced each December 31st to both rising and established critics and journalists, in recognition for significant contributions to their fields.

As the Silvers Foundation enters its fifth year of activity, we seek to grow our potential to support writers of long-form nonfiction in a variety of ways. We are hiring an Administrative Assistant who will be directly involved in all aspects of the Foundation’s activities, and who will assume the role of Administrator within six months. The ideal candidate will have excellent communication and organizational skills. Responsibilities include internal and external communications; creating and following up on social media and publicity; copy writing; web and graphic design; scheduling; and overseeing the soliciting and processing of Grant applications and Prize nominations and seeing the selection process through various stages. The Administrative Assistant will work closely with the Foundation’s director, Daniel Mendelsohn, the outgoing Administrator, and the Board of Trustees on all aspects of the above. The Foundation is based in Manhattan and the position will require regular meetings at our offices.

Applications, consisting of a cover letter and a CV or resume, should be submitted via email only to:

admin@silversfoundation.org.

Preference will be given to applicants with some relevant experience who intend to pursue a career in publishing.
